Dreamland: A Frank Romero Retrospective
As part of the exhibition identity and collateral, which included a catalog, a series of videos were also conceived to aid in fundraising. Thankfully, I am happy to say all financial goals were met.
All video was directed, shot and edited by me and it was a wonderful experience to create something that truly engaged with donors who after all, made this exhibition possible.
Lot’s of kudos to curatorial and development teams, could not have done this with you folks.

One of a series of photo sessions for an agency. The approach to these is always fun. While clothes are often the main subject of these sort of projects, one quickly realizes that it’s also about the person and the surroundings. For this specific shoot, I remember I’d had an eye on this old but beautiful building (i later found out that it happens to be an ice cream factory). The light was just perfect and the contrast was very strong I thought. This shoot was a lot of fun and the moment was recorded with plenty of enthusiasm for all involved.

Subtle iteration of the design for the Long Beach Zine Fest. It was lot’s of fun working on the little doodles that make up the pattern.

Editorial shoot for an agency. The challenge of this project was to zero in on the energy of the athlete while in the midst of her surroundings. Ultimately, a beach location was the best option as it was the perfect overcast day and the beach was empty. This allowed us to focus on the subject and produce a sparring-like experience with the viewer. We got knocked out, but we got back up.

As part of the annual Day of The Dead celebration, one year I was commissioned to create an event identity in the theme of Selena and the celebration of her life. I am including a few earlier versions here for reference but the first image ended up been the final. This project was probably one of my favorites.

I can’t say enough about this project. Growing up in Mexíco and therefore raised listening to the tunes of this amazing artist I was super excited to work on this event and tribute.

Fashion editorial for a vintage clothing shop. The task here was to focus on the materials and colors and make sure that details were captured. There’s something incredibly beautiful about used vintage clothing, and not only because there less and less of certain items still around but the idea that the garments or shoes were used before by someone else really make this experience so unique from just buying something off a rack.
I really love how the light painted the scene. Like most of my shoots, no artificial light or reflectors were used. Let’s keep it natural whenever possible.

Identity design for an indoor cycling gym. A truly perfect opportunity to create something great based on the fact I grew up in a bike shop and around cycling. The logo here in fact is a direct result of gazing up at my dad’s bicycle shop which it too depicted a figure on two wheels. After a serious of attempts I finally came to the conclusion that the “cyc” made for the best spot to insert this concept. I do think I was meant create this logo, so I am very grateful.
A minimal but fun design for a contemporary greeting card. Really enjoyed working with a bit of texture to get a print feel to things. Making things feel a bit worn is always important for me, I feel it makes for a much more interesting approach.

Promesa (Artist Documentation)
Artist documentation of Sofia Madonado's mural Promesa as part Relational Undercurrents: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Archipelago, curated by Tatiana Flores, as part MOLAA’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibition.
A ifestyle shoot for an agency. The challenge here, as it is in most outdoor shoots, was to shoot in the evening while making sure our subject was still well lit and our images as sharp and crisp as possible.
Once again, I had been eyeing this school track for quite a while and when the opportunity came for this project I jumped at the idea of shooting there. What I was most excited about in this project was to juxtapose the subject within here surroundings, specifically the way the geometric lines on the track directed our eyes towards the subject.

A series of gallery ads for an art publication. The approach here was utilize elements from the artists other works and introduce them back into an ad that would juxtapose the gallery identity. These layouts were a few of many as the amount of from from which to pull from was both a plenty and very bold and rich.
